Creating the Ultimate Outdoor Space

When creating your ultimate outdoor space, the sky is the limit. Keep in mind that it is your space and that you should include features that will allow you to get the most use out of the space.

If you love swimming, a pool is a natural addition to any outdoor space. Do you have a passion for golf? Why not add a putting green. Does your family love water parks? Consider adding a water slide. Do you love barbecuing? A gourmet outdoor kitchen will have you cooking outdoors all summer. If relaxation is more your style, then a spa tub and fire pit are great options that promote rest and relaxation. A fountain, and it’s soothing sounds are also a great addition to any outdoor space.

When designing your perfect outdoor space, remember to keep in mind your family’s favorite activities and incorporate them into the space. This will ensure that your outdoor space will be tailored to meet your family’s specific needs. Check out the gallery above for inspiration for creating your ultimate outdoor space.

Mixing Materials to Create a Unique Outdoor Space

Mixing materials in the design of your outdoor space is an excellent way to add visual interest. Consider pairing a bold color with a more neutral color scheme to make the color pop without overwhelming a space. A great example of this technique can be found in the spa below. The pale blue glass tile creates a beautiful contrast with the stonework of the surrounding walls.

Creating a Unified Outdoor Space

One of the major challenges of designing an outdoor space is tying it all together with the home’s design. A well designed outdoor space should be an extension of the home and should feature the same design influences. Outdoor spaces often get neglected and remain barren or are quickly thrown together with simple outdoor furniture and a BBQ. After putting some time into designing an outdoor space, homeowners find that it becomes one of their favorite areas of the home and their use of the outdoor space increases dramatically.

What can you do to create an inviting outdoor space? Start by paying attention to your home’s details. Is it mid-century modern? Traditional? Mediterranean? The style of your home should inform the color and style of the outdoor furnishings that you select.

Traditional patio furniture would clash greatly with the sleek lines of a mid-century modern home. The style of the home should also influence the landscaping of the yard. A rustic themed home could have a wildflower garden, while a traditional home may be much  more manicured. A mid-century modern home could have a highly symmetrical landscape design. The most important thing when creating a unified outdoor space is simply spending the time to take a closer look at the design of your home to ensure that its design elements are reflected in the outdoor space.

Stone Hardscape for a Natural Finish

Stone hardscape adds a natural look to outdoor spaces. Depending on the style of the home,  typical modern concrete hardscape can appear harsh and artificial. Stone hardscape is a great way to get the benefits of hardscape while maintaining a natural looking finish. Options range from a polished stone veneer tile to a more textured stone. Polished stone tile lends an outdoor space a natural, yet elegant look, while natural stone has a more rustic appearance.

Water Features Enhance a Classic Pool

Water features are a great way to enhance even the most basic pool. A classic rectangular pool can be enlivened with the addition of water features, as they add energy and visual interest. With the trends for lagoon and infinity style pools dominating the past few years, homeowners are rediscovering the timeless elegance of a rectangular pool. Water features can come in many different styles, and the effects are very different depending on the style and number of water features selected.

Landscaping Trends: Wooden decks

Wooden decks are becoming increasingly popular, as a modern and elegant addition to any pool area. A raised wooden deck can create a platform to put lounge chairs overlooking a pool. Homeowners desiring the modern look of a wooden deck have several options when it comes to decking materials. The traditional choice is to go with wood, however there are also composite, plastic and aluminum options as well. Composite decking materials have become increasingly popular over the past decade. Composite decking is an environmentally friendly lumber alternative made of a combination of wood fibers and plastic. Plastic decking is designed to resemble wood and is made of recycled plastic. Aluminum is the most expensive option as well as the longest lasting, however it does not closely resemble wood. The variety of decking available allows homeowners to choose the option that best meets their decking needs.

Winter Is The Perfect Time To Warm Up In A Spa Tub

Nothing beats cooling off with a swim in a pool on a hot summer’s day. By the same token, as the temperatures drop and the seasons change, nothing beats warming up in a spa tub!

Spa tubs are great when paired with a pool, but are also perfect as a standalone feature in a yard. Spas are a great choice for homeowners in cooler climates who may not be interested in pools due to a shorter summer season. Unlike outdoor pools, spas can be used year round, even in cold weather locations with snow!

Spa tubs can be made to fit the custom needs of each homeowner. They can vary from small tubs to large ones and can feature additional elements such as fountains, lighting, and even perimeter overflow effects. Whatever the customer’s needs, there is a spa to suit every taste. In addition, spas can be faced with a variety of materials to complement the look of each home and outdoor living space. Popular spa veneers include, ceramic and glass tile, stone and rock. With so many customization options, homeowners are sure to find a spa that is perfect for their unique needs.
